How many times can you retake a class at OU? ›

Students can add and drop classes online through one.ou.edu during the first two weeks of a 16-week course. Beginning with the third week, online add/drop is not available; students must go to Enrollment Services in Buchanan Hall, Room 230, or email enroll@ou.edu to add or drop classes.

D is the lowest grade for which credit is given in any undergraduate college and means that, although in the judgment of the instructor credit should be allowed for the course, a degree will not be conferred upon a student whose work is all of that level.

Undergraduate students withdrawing from all courses receive the grade of W in each course of enrollment. Graduate students withdrawing from all courses in the first six weeks of classes in fall or spring receive the grade of W in each course of enrollment.

A student may repeat up to four courses, not to exceed 18 hours, in which the original grade was D or F. While both attempts will be visible on the transcript, only the second attempt will count in the calculation of the student's overall GPA.

A student is allowed only five grades of W throughout the course of their undergraduate career at The University of Oklahoma. Once a student reaches this maximum number of W grades, they will not be allowed to drop any courses after the free add and drop period.

Students are allowed to repeat a course in which they had an unsuccessful attempt up to a maximum of two times (three attempts in total) within the CCCD District (OCC, CCC, GWC). An unsuccessful attempt is defined as having completed a course with "F," "D," "NP," or withdrawing a course and receiving a “W.”

Some schools may allow it for academic reasons, while others might consider it for health or personal issues. The number of times a student can repeat a grade can be limited, often to just once, but this can vary by school district and individual school.

Federal regulations limit the number of times a student may repeat a course and receive federal financial aid for that course. Generally, you can receive the Federal Pell Grant when repeating the same course up to two times (if you've received a passing grade both times).
